MECFLOU RECEIVES SPIRIT OF ENTERPRISE AWARD 2013
1 November 2013, Singapore – The Cyclect group is pleased to announce that Mecflou Pte Ltd, its subsidiary, was awarded the Spirit of Enterprise (SOE) Award 2013 today at The Grand Mandarin Ballroom, Mandarin Orchard Hotel.
The SOE Award is an annual national award conferred to deserving business entrepreneurs to honour their outstanding achievements. It was established in 2003, and aims to recognise local entrepreneurs’ courage, perseverance and innovation in their journey of entrepreneurship. These local entrepreneurs serve to become role models for young Singaporeans to emulate and to inspire the youths to take the bold step in becoming enterprising entrepreneurs. Honourees are selected from SOE nominees interviewed by their student interviewers, and represent the pinnacle of contribution towards the economic development of Singapore.
Mr Kenneth Ng, Managing Director of Mecflou was present to receive the award from this year’s Guest of Honour, Mr Teo Ser Luck, Minister of State, Minister of Trade and Industry (Singapore). Kenneth relates how he first started Mecflou , a mechanical and electrical installation company together with Cyclect in 2004, after his previous company was forced to sell over due to the down turn of the capital process industries. Through positiveness and a determination to start afresh, he diversified and started operating business in the process engineering industry, leading to where he is today.
His advice to the younger generation and aspiring entrepreneurs is “to watch your overheads, profit and loss. Take low risk, and be flexible so that you can diversify. Be more in a vertical integration, such that you will do business in line of what you are doing, and thus able to provide or diversify into other industries using your current resources.” He also added, ” Always upkeep your knowledge, with the industry that you are in, of the technologies, and always keep an uptrend with what you are doing so that you know what is going on in a business. Always stay ahead of what you are currently doing.”
An annual publication featuring SOE Award Honourees, the annual SOE Book collects their stories, documenting their journeys as entrepreneurs. The SOE Book is available at major bookstores in Singapore and at SOE events, and is given to more than 1,200 SOE Nominees.
