Singapore – On 8th November 2013, The Cyclect Group celebrated its 70 year mark with over 300 guests including Minister Teo Ser Luck, partners and clients. The directors and long serving staff held the gala event at Tower Ballroom, Shangri-La Hotel. Amid the festivities, the evening started off with an impressive laser show followed by a milestone video and speech by Managing Director, Mr Melvin Tan.

Mr. Tan said, “This is a very significant year as it marks an important milestone in our journey”, he goes on to talk about how Mr. Tan Ai Meng, his late grandfather, started the business in the middle of a war, when his grandmother was pregnant with his father. “It was a difficult but courageous decision.”, he emphasized.

Cyclect started off small and lacked resources. Through his grandfather’s hard work, it soon became one of the most reliable repair companies in Singapore. Melvin recalled how when he was still very fresh in the business, he made mistakes and paid an expensive price to learn that in order to earn the trust of his clients, it requires time, dedication, commitment to purpose and excellence of delivery. These same values that the first generation developed, passed down to the 2nd and 3rd generations, are what kept the company growing.

The dinner hosted by celebrity emcee Moe Alkaff was filled with entertainment and laughter. The event highlight was the traditional three toasting session (for the past, present and future), and “Ice Breaking” ceremony that featured the directors knocking down the seven and zero digit ice sculpture, signifying the breakthrough of the company’s 70 year mark. The night ended with guests staying behind to dance and sing.

“It was great to see so many long term employees and this is a sign of a great company culture.”, stated Mr. Calven Bland, business development manager of McConnell Dowell South East Asia, when asked how he felt about Cyclect and what it has achieved today. He continued, “I especially enjoyed Melvin’s opening speech and the video showing the history of Cyclect. The point he made of his grandfather’s choice during the middle of a war is testimony to what Cyclect has today.

The fact that the 3rd generation of the family all have this same drive and vision is evident in where they are today and where they are heading for the future.
We wish Cyclect all the success for the future as they ‘smash through the 70 year’ mark and onto bigger and better things.”

The Cyclect group officially enters the seventieth year of its history, started in 1943 by Mr Tan Ai Meng, the late founder. From a small shophouse in Tras Street with a handful of employees that provided household electronics repairs, Cyclect has grown into a full fledged engineering services company with over 500 staff and operating in 9 Countries.
